Fourteen Football Players Named All-State

December 12, 2003 – The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) has announced their 2003 All-State Football Team.  Eight USA South players were named to the First Team, while six more were named Honorable Mention.  Christopher Newport led the contention with six players, followed by Ferrum with four and Shenandoah and Averett with two apiece. 

Named to the First Team were: wide receiver George Jones and offensive lineman Aaron Bennett from CNU; linebacker Antonio McClenny and defensive back Darren Venable from Ferrum; offensive linemen Lamont Moore and Erik Gaskins from Shenandoah; linebacker Kelvin Hutcheson and defensive back Anthony Morris from Averett. 

Named Honorable Mention were: offensive lineman Tommy Fitzgerald, defensive lineman Jason Chandler, linebacker Justin Wood and defensive back Hosh Weekes from CNU.  Ferrum's Brett Griffin, a defensive lineman, and running back Moncrief Holmes were also named Honorable Mention.
