Three Greensboro Lacrosse Players Named All-Region
July 12, 2003 – Three Greensboro College women's lacrosse players have earned All-Region recognition, selected by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches' Association (IWLCA). Greensboro's Stephanie Schaeffer (Davidsonville, MD), Lorin Smith, (Davidsonville, MD) and Rebecca Beninghove (Westminster, MD) were picked to the South Atlantic Region second team. The Pride finished 13-4--its best record in program history--and won the DIAC regular season title, as well as the conference tournament championship. Schaeffer, GC's goalkeeper the past four seasons, allowed 7.17 goals-per-game and posted a .580 save percentage in '03. She was chosen DIAC Player-of-the-Year and the Dixie Tournament most valuable player. She was also selected to play in next month's North-South Senior Women's Lacrosse All-Star Game. Smith, who played attack, was a three-time DIAC selection. Also a senior, Smith is GC's all-time leading scorer. She had 45 goals and a school-record 42 assists in '03. Smith was the DIAC Player-of-the-Year in 2001 and '02. Beninghove was second on The Pride in scoring with 38 goals and 26 assists. The junior midfielder also scooped 36 ground balls and had 32 draw controls for GC. Beninghove is a three-time DIAC first team selection. South Atlantic Region First
