Golf All-Conference Winners Named
April 22, 2003 - The Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has
announced its 2003 Golf All-Conference
selections. The First and Second All-Conference Teams are
determined by the top finishers at the Conference Tournament, held April
18-19. The major awards are voted on by the golf coaches and
Sports Information Directors at each institution.
Methodist's Steve Conley is the 2003 DIAC Coach of the Year. He
coached the Monarchs to their 21st DIAC championship. The team finished
in the Top Six in each tournament it competed in, including two
first-place finishes, one second and one third place finish.
Toni Karjalainen of Averett has been named the Player of the Year.
He recorded a 71.5 stroke average in 12 rounds played this season. His
low round of the season was 66 shot at Jekyll Island in the Golden Isle
Invitational. He won two tournaments (Golden Isle & Camp LeJeune). He
finished 3rd in the Emory Invitational and 12th in the Dixie Conference
Tournament.
Methodist's Adam Horton is the Rookie of the Year. He finished in
the Top 10 in five of the six tournaments he competed in, including
third at both the El Diablo and the DIAC Tournaments. His scoring
average is 72.1 in 15 rounds.
