Four Men's Basketball Players Named All-Region

March 17, 2004 – D3hoops.com has announced its 2003-2004 Men's Basketball All-Region Teams.  Four USA South players are among those honored.  Methodist's Sam Porter has been named to the Second Team All-South.  Shenandoah's Chris Rhone, Chowan's Trayvon Lathan and Christopher Newport's Otho Hampton all made the Third Team.  Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools.  All SIDs in the region were then given the opportunity to vote.  This is the third year D3hoops.com has bestowed these awards. 

Porter, a junior form Bamberg, SC, averaged 12.8 points and 9.2 rebounds per game this season.  For his efforts he was named to the First Team All-Conference.  He was also the Tournament MVP after leading the Monarchs to a Conference championship. 

A junior from Washington, D.C., Rhone led the Hornets with 19.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game for the year.  He was recognized as a First Team All-Conference member and was also named to the All-Tournament Team. 

Lathan, a freshman from Chesapeake, VA, averaged 21.5 points and 7.7 rebounds for the Braves this season.  He was named to the First Team All-Conference.  He was the leading scorer in the USA South and was rewarded for such by being named the Rookie of the Year. 

A junior from Charleston, SC, Hampton led the Captains with 15.5 points and 7.8 rebounds for the Captains this season.  He was named to the USA South Second Team All-Conference.
