Men's Basketball All-Conference Awards Announced
February 25, 2004 – The USA South Athletic Conference has
announced its All-Conference awards for men's basketball. Christopher
Newport, Shenandoah and N.C. Wesleyan led the way with two members each.
Greensboro's Marcellus Morgan has been named the
Player of the Year. Chowan's Trayvon Lathan is the Rookie of the Year.
Methodist head coach David Smith is the USA South Coach of the Year.
Morgan, a senior from Creedmoor, NC, averaged 19.6 points and 4.4
rebounds per game this season. His Pride finished the season tied
for second after going 10-4 in the Conference and 12-12 overall.
This is his second consecutive year on the All-Conference First Team.
He was named to the Second Team in 2002.
Lathan, a freshman from Chesapeake, VA, averaged 21.5 points and 7.7
rebounds per game in his first season. The Braves finished the
year 10-14, including 5-9 in Conference action. They finished the
regular season sixth in the USA South.
In his fifth season at the helm of the Monarchs, Smith led his team to a
regular season title. They finished the season 11-3 in Conference
action and 15-9 overall. The go into the USA South Tournament as
the top seed.
