Four CNU Men's Soccer Players Named All-State

December 10, 2003 – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) have announced their 2003 Men's Soccer All-State Team.  Four Christopher Newport players were among those honored.  Nick Yannitello, Billy Lucas and Justin Chezem were all named to the First Team, while Steve Keller made the Second Team.  The teams members are nominated by and voted upon by Sports Information Directors at every college and university in the Commonwealth. 

Yannitello recorded 12 goals and four assists for the Captains this season.  He is a junior from Williamsburg, VA.  The forward was First Team All-Conference in 2003 and 2002 and was named Second Team in 2001.  Lucas, the 2003 USA South Player of the Year, scored eight goals and added nine assists this season.  The Yorktown, VA junior was also named to the Second Team All-Conference Team in 2002.  Chezem, a junior from Montclair, VA, anchored the Captains defense.  He was named First Team All-Conference for his efforts this season.  Fellow defender Keller rounds out the CNU and USA South representatives on the All-State Team.  The freshman from Newport News, VA contributed two goals and two assists along with a strong defensive presence.  He was also named to the All-Conference First Team. The Captains finished the 2003 season with a 12-5-3 overall record, including going 6-1 in Conference play.
