Men's Soccer Awards Announced
November 5, 2003 – The USA South Athletic Conference has
announced its All-Conference awards for men's soccer. Christopher
Newport led the way with seven All-Conference members, followed closely
by Greensboro with six. CNU's Billy Lucas has been named the
Player of the Year. GC's Galen Reid is the Rookie of the Year.
Captains head coach Steve Shaw is the USA South Coach of the Year.
Lucas, a junior from Yorktown, VA, recorded eight goals and nine assists
on the season to help the Captains to a first place regular season
finish. He was Second Team All-Conference last year. Reid, a
Greensboro, NC freshman, had nine points and two assists for the Pride.
The freshman helped lead the Pride to a 12-3-3 season. In his
eighth season at the helm of CNU, Shaw led his team to an 11-4-3 overall
record, including going 6-0-1 in the Conference. The Captains won
the regular season title. This is the third time Shaw has been
honored as Coach of the Year.
