Softball All-Conference Teams Named


April 16, 2003 - The Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has announced its 2003 Softball All-Conference selections.  The players are voted on by the softball coaches and Sports Information Directors at each institution. 

Christopher Newport's Vanessa Gray is the DIAC Player of the Year.  Gray split her time between pitching and third base.  She started 14 games as a pitcher, recording a 10-3 record, 61 strikeouts and a .59 ERA.  As a starting third baseman, she hit .423 with 18 RBI.

Michelle Kass, also of CNU, is the Pitcher of the Year.  She started 14 games and compiled a 13-1 record.  She struck out 107 batters and had a .51 ERA. 

Chowan's Tori Flint was named the Rookie of the Year.  The utility player batter .402 with 21 RBI on the season. 

Heather Mull of Averett is the Rookie Pitcher of the Year.  She started 18 games and struck out 75 batters.  She recorded a 1.92 ERA on her way  to a 10-7 record. 

Chowan's Meredith Long has been named the 2003 Coach of the Year.  She has led her Braves to a 22-9, 12-2 record and a regular season title.
