USA South Announces 25-Year Team for Women's Soccer

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The 2005-06 academic year marks the 25th anniversary of women's athletics in the USA South Athletic Conference.  Beginning in the fall of the 1981-82 academic year, the USA South, then known as the Dixie Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, incorporated four women's sports (volleyball, women's basketball, softball and women's tennis) and awarded championships in those sports.  In conjunction with the 25th anniversary, the conference is selecting Silver Anniversary teams in five women's sports (volleyball, women's soccer, women's basketball, softball and women's tennis).  Today the Conference is pleased to announce the Silver Anniversary team for women's soccer.

Carola Riegner, Christopher Newport  (2001-2004)
Two-time All-Conference; Played 2,643 minutes in goal; 29 goals allowed; 128 saves; Owns the school's record for shutouts in a career with 11 and goals against average with 0.99

Elke Reisdorph, Christopher Newport (1997-2000)
Three-time All-Conference; Two-time All-State; Scored 10 goals and had 13 assists for 33 points; Had two game-winning goals; As a defender led her team to the 2000 Conference Tournament Championship

Laura McFerrin, Christopher Newport (1997-2000)
Two-time All-Conference; One-time All-South Region; One-time Virginia All-State; Owns the school record for goals in a career (29) and points in a career (69)

Anne Thorpe, Methodist (1987-1990)
Three-time All-Conference; Four-time All-American; Two-time Academic All-American; Methodist career leader in points (204), goals (81) and assists (42); Methodist single season leader in assists (14)

Catherine Byrne, Methodist (1988-1991)
