                                                                         Players of the Week


Baseball Player of the Week
         John Corbin, Christopher Newport - The junior first baseman from Williamsburg, VA helped the Bishops go 6-1 on the week.  Over the course of seven games, Corbin hit .739 with 14 RBI's, 4 doubles and was 3-for-4 in steals.  The Captains defeated Alma, 6-1, 15-0, 5-2; Notre Dame (OH), 10-5 and 5-4; and Hanover, 13-1.  CNU  lost to Johnson and Wales, 16-10.  Also nominated: Allen Kent, Methodist, and Brent Justice, Greensboro.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
         Blake Rice, N.C. Wesleyan - The Rocky Mount, NC sophomore picked up a Conference win for the Bishops this weekend.  He pitched a complete game, allowing four hits, one run and struck out 10 batters and led NCWC to an 8-1 win over Methodist.    Also nominated: Ryan Brandt, Methodist, and Mike Cosby, Christopher Newport.

Softball Player of the Week
         Jennifer Simms, Greensboro - The outfielder helped the Pride go 4-1 on the week.  Over the course of four games, she hit .545 with five RBI's.  The Pride defeated Mary Baldwin, 12-3 and 10-2; Methodist, 5-0; and Peace, 7-6.  GC's lone loss of the week came against Methodist, 3-0 .  Also nominated: Katie Custis, Ferrum; Lettie Lawrence, NC. Wesleyan; Kristen Kennedy, Methodist; and Susan Ishman, Christopher Newport.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
        Michelle Kass-Prewitt, Christopher Newport - The Mundelein, IL senior picked up five wins for the Captains.  She pitched 33.2  innings, gave up 27 hits and six runs, while striking out 47.  Her wins came against Guilford, VA Wesleyan, Oneonta, Roanoke and Moravian.  Her lone loss was to VA Wesleyan.  Also nominated: Jessica Hutzul, Methodist; and Jamie Pittman, Greensboro.

Lacrosse Player of the Week
         Kristyn Hankins, Christopher Newport - The Charlottesville, VA, sophomore played a key role in the Captains  2-0 week.  She scored four goals and added two assists in the Captains' conference win over Greensboro.  In CNU's win over Bridgewater, she had 3 goals.  Also nominated: Emily Neilsen, Methodist; Amanda McGlaughlin, Greensboro.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
      Matt Brantley, Jr., Ferrum - The Norlina, NC junior had a 3-1 week in singles and went 3-0 in doubles.  The Panthers went 3-1 last week defeating N.C. Wesleyan, Cabrini and Marywood, while losing to York.  Also nominated: Worth Richardson, Christopher Newport.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
     Courtney Bull, Methodist - The senior from Berwick, PA won both singles and doubles on Sunday versus Mary Baldwin.  She was 1-1 for the week in singles and in doubles.

Men's Golf Player of the Week
     Eric Dugas, Methodist - The senior from Brewster, MA tied for 2nd place at the Pine Needles Invitational.  He had rounds of 75 and 73 to post his 148 score.  The Monarch team finished third.

Baseball Rookie of the Week
       Kyle Eudy, Methodist - The freshman second baseman from Peachland, NC played an integral role in the Monarchs going 3-1 this week.  He hit .375 over the course of four games and added four RBI's.  The Monarchs defeated Ohio Northern, 11-4,  and N.C. Wesleyan, 6-1 and 7-2.  Their lone loss came to the Bishops, 8-1.  Also nominated: Ken Kellum, Averett; Matthew Smith, N.C. Wesleyan; Anthony Corona, Greensboro.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
      Kenny Moreland, Christopher Newport- The freshman from Springfield, VA pitched a complete game shutout in a 15-0 win over Alma.  He allowed just two hits in seven innings, walked none and struck out seven.  Also nominated: John Hayman, N.C. Wesleyan; Steven Augone, Greensboro; Chase Cates, Methodist. 

Softball Rookie of the Week
         Jenee Johnson, Greensboro - The freshman outfielder from Richmond, VA was instrumental in the Pride going 4-1 this week.  She hit .538 with three RBI's over the course of five games.  The Pride defeated Mary Baldwin, 12-3 and 10-2, and had conference wins over Methodist, 5-0, and Peace, 7-6.  GC's lone loss of the week came against Methodist, 3-0.  Also nominated: Mary Greenway, Ferrum; Candace Hudgins, Methodist; Hannah Brown, Christopher Newport.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
     Tracey Hopkins, N.C. Wesleyan- The freshman from Midlothian, VA picked up a win in the 9-0 victory over Lycoming.  She pitched 6 innings, giving up 3 hits and struck out 4 batters.  Also nominated: Jordan Davenport, Greensboro.

Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
     Katelyn Cushman, Methodist - The freshman from Bennington, VT, scored three goals against Averett and had four goals and one assist in two games for the week.

Men's Tennis Rookie Player of the Week
     Thomas James, Ferrum - The Lawrenceville, GA sophomore went 3-1 in singles and 2-1 in doubles in helping the Panthers go 3-1 last week.  Ferrum defeated N.C. Wesleyan, Cabrini and Marywood, while losing to York.  Also nominated:  John Mook, Christopher Newport.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
     Leighton Bull, Methodist - The freshman from Berwick, PA won both singles and doubles on Sunday versus Mary Baldwin.  She was 1-1 for the week in singles and in doubles.
