                                                                         Players of the Week


Baseball Player of the Week
         Jonathan Spivey, Methodist - The sophomore left fielder from Tabor City, NC hit .857 with 9 RBI's, a double and a triple.  He was 8-for-10 in the Averett series.   The Monarchs defeated Averett 9-4, 7-0, and 6-5,   and St. Paul's, 20-0.   Also nominated: Larry Lockhart, Greensboro; John Corbin, Christopher Newport; Brett Thomas, Ferrum; Mark Wooten, N.C. Wesleyan; and T.J. Bray, Averett.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
         Ryan Brandt, Methodist- The Durham, NC junior picked up a Conference win for the Monarchs this weekend.  He pitched a complete game, allowing three hits, no runs and struck out 13 batters and led Methodist to a 7-0 win over Averett.    Also nominated: Chad Bray, Greensboro; Blake Rice, N.C. Wesleyan; Mike Cosby; Nick Sborz, Shenandoah; Randall Stevens, Ferrum; and, Kenny Payne, Averett.

Softball Player of the Week
         Jennifer Simms, Greensboro - The outfielder helped the Pride go 3-2 on the week.  Over the course of four games, she hit .545 with three RBI's, a double and a triple.  The Pride defeated Widener, 4-0 ; Marietta, 3-2; and Bethany.  GC's  losses of the week came against Muskingum, 9-8, and Coe, 13-3 .  Also nominated: Summer Greer, Peace; Kristen Kennedy, Methodist; Heather Mull, Averett; Jami Reed, Ferrum; and Courtney Tucker, N.C. Wesleyan.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
        Michelle Kass-Prewitt, Christopher Newport - The Mundelein, IL senior had a 1-2 week  for the Captains.  She pitched 21.2  innings, gave up 13 hits and three runs, while striking out 36.  Her win came against #23rd ranked Oneonta where she threw a perfect game and struck out 16 batters. One loss was a 2-1 decision against #2 ranked Moravian in which she allowed 9 hits, walked none and struck out seven.  Against Manhattanville, Kass-Prewitt went 7 2/3 innings, allowing four hits, one unearned run, one walk  and had 13 strikeouts.   Also nominated: Jennifer Sorensen, Methodist.

Lacrosse Player of the Week
         Erika Bradd, Shenandoah - The Front Royal, VA, sophomore played a key role in the Hornets 2-1 week.  She scored 12 goals and added four assists.  She had the game tying goal and the game winning assist against Washington (MD).  On the week, Shenandoah defeated Washington and Ferrum and lost to Swarthmore.  Also nominated: Kristen Conques, Christopher Newport; Jenn Phillips, Ferrum; Lindsey West, Methodist; and Kristen McGuire, Greensboro.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
      Steven Inge, Christopher Newport - The Chester, VA junior had a 4-0 week in singles and went 3-0 in doubles.  The Captains went 3-1 last week defeating Randolph Macon, St. Mary's and Shenandoah, while losing to Goucher.  Also nominated: Michael Layton, Methodist and P.G. Grane, Greensboro.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
     Courtney Bull, Methodist - The senior from Berwick, PA went 4-0 in the #3 singles flight and 4-0 in doubles.  She led the Monarchs to a 4-0 week with wins against Waynesburg, Baldwin Wallace, Ithaca and Elizabethtown.  Also nominated: Joanna McCandlish, Christopher Newport; Natalie Edmondson, Ferrum; Charlote Davis, Peace; Kate Creasy, Greensboro.

Men's Golf Player of the Week
     Adam Horton, Methodist - The senior from Chesapeake, VA  finished third at the Callaway Collegiate.  He had rounds of 75 and 72 to post his 147 score.  The Monarch team won the tournament.

Baseball Rookie of the Week
       Jesse Fuller, Ferrum - The freshman shortstop from Richmond, VA played an integral role in the Panthers going 3-1-1 this week.  He hit .421 over the course of five games and added five RBI's and a double.  Ferrum defeated Virginia Wesleyan, 5-4,  and Chowan, 7-1 and 3-1.  Their lone loss came to Chowan, 10-5 and the tie was against Bridgewater in 12 innings.  Also nominated: Jason Eberz, Shenandoah.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
      Spencer Martin, Methodist -  The freshman from Virginia Beach, VA combined for a no-hitter in his first collegiate start with 12 strikeouts against St. Paul's.  Also nominated: Jason Byrne, Shenandoah; Kenny Moreland, Christopher Newport; Kevin Show, Greensboro; and Steven Putnam, N.C. Wesleyan.

Softball Rookie of the Week
        Erica Rutledge, Peace  - The freshman outfielder from Charlotte, NC was instrumental in the Pride going 3-3 this week.  She hit .455 with 12 RBI's and seven doubles over the course of six games.    Also nominated: Candace Hudgins, Methodist; Ashlee Bass, N.C. Wesleyan; and Mary Greenway, Ferrum.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
     Joanie Blevins, Peace -  The junior from Thurmond, NC,  picked up two wins for the week - Salem and Piedmont.  She pitched 12 innings, giving up 5 hits and striking out 17 batters.  Also nominated: Stacie Patterson, Greensboro and Libby Fulford, N.C. Wesleyan.

Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
     Caroline Young, Greensboro - The freshman from Orlando, FL, scored three goals in games against Lynchburg and Frostburg.  Two of the goals were tallied against Frostburg.  Also nominated: Darcie Jones, Averett.

Men's Tennis Rookie Player of the Week
     Eddie Glidewell, Christopher Newport - The Warrenton, VA freshman went 3-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles in helping the Captains go 3-1 last week.  CNU defeated Randolph Macon, St. Mary's and Shenandoah,  while losing to Goucher, 4-3.  Also nominated:  Chris Fletcher, Methodist.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
     Leighton Bull, Methodist - The freshman from Berwick, PA went 4-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles as the Monarchs had a 4-0 week in competition in Hilton Head Island, SC.  Also nominated: Stefanie Leblang, Christopher Newport; Carrie Pacifico, Greensboro; Whitney Gilmore, Peace; and Kirsi Turunen, Averett.
