                                                                         Players of the Week


Baseball Player of the Week
         Brett Thomas, Ferrum - The sophomore third baseman from Danville, VA,  hit .500 with 4 RBI's, 2 doubles, a triple and 2 homeruns.  He scored 7 runs and had a 1.125 slugging percentage.   The Panthers defeated Lynchburg, 6-3,  and won 2 against Methodist, 3-1 and 7-0.   The lone loss of the week was to Methodist, 8-3.   Also nominated: Ben Kaplin, Methodist, and Jason Moody, Christopher Newport.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
         Jesse Bowles, Ferrum - The Boones Mill, VA,  junior picked up a Conference win for the Panthers this weekend.  He pitched 9 innings, allowing three hits, no runs, no walks and struck out 10 batters and led Ferrum to a 7-0 win over Methodist.    Also nominated: Mike Cosby, Christopher Newport; AnDrew Keever, Greensboro; Nick Sborz, Shenandoah; and Eric Autry, Methodist.

Softball Player of the Week
         Jamie Pittman, Greensboro - The first baseman helped the Pride go 3-3 on the week.  Over the course of five games, she hit .438 with seven RBI's, and 2 doubles.  The Pride defeated Averett, 5-1, and Shenandoah, 8-0, and 3-2.  GC's  losses of the week came against Averett, 3-2, and VA Wesleyan, 6-5 and 9-0.   Also nominated: Susan Ishman, Christopher Newport; Theresa Prezzy, Shenandoah; and Kim McCall, Methodist.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
        Michelle Kass-Prewitt, Christopher Newport - The Mundelein, IL, senior had a 4-1 week  for the Captains.  She pitched 33 innings, gave up 17 hits and nine runs, while striking out 33.  Her wins came against Ferrum, 2-1 (8 innings) and 2-1; Eastern Mennonite, 8-4 and 7-6; and Peace, 1-0.  The lone loss was a 2-0 setback against Peace.   Also nominated: Mara Brown, Methodist.

Lacrosse Player of the Week
         Kelly Mataglese, Shenandoah - The Cape May, NJ, sophomore played a key role in the Hornets 2-2 week.  She scored 13 goals and added seven assists.  She had at least 2 points in every game.  On the week, Shenandoah defeated Marymount and Averett and lost to Frostburg and Greensboro.  Also nominated: Sally Allstadt, Christopher Newport; Amanda McGlaughlin, Greensboro; and Emily Neilsen, Methodist.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
      Sirsean Arlain, Averett - The Castries, St. Lucia,  junior had a 2-1 week in singles and went 2-1 in doubles.  The Cougars went 0-3.  Arlain defeated the one seed of nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon and also won against Salisbury.  His loss came to Mary Washington.  Also nominated: Adam Petes, Christopher Newport and P.G. Grane, Greensboro.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
     Melissa King, Christopher Newport - The junior from Chesapeake, VA,  went 3-0 in the #5 singles flight and 3-0 in doubles.  She led the Captains to a 3-0 week with wins against Lynchburg, Peace and Greensboro.   Also nominated: Jenny Smith, Methodist.

Men's Golf Player of the Week
     Kent Doughty, Ferrum - The senior from Mount Sidney, VA  finished first at the Lynchburg Invitational.  He had a round of 72 to claim medalist honors.  Ferrum finished second in the Invitational.  Also nominated: Adam Horton, Methodist, and Rocky Manning, Greensboro.

Baseball Rookie of the Week
       Sam Fullerton, Shenandoah - The freshman third baseman from Gainesville, VA, played an integral role in the Hornets going 5-1 this week.  He hit .550 over the course of five games and added seven RBI's, a double, a triple and a homerun.  He was 6 for 13 in the Greensboro series with a double and a three-run homerun.  Shenandoah  defeated Mt. Aloysius, 7-3 and 14-3; Messiah, 5-4; and Greensboro, 9-5 and 8-5.  The loss was to Greensboro, 2-1.   Also nominated: Kyle Eudy, Methodist.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
      Kenny Moreland, Christopher Newport -  The freshman from Springfield, VA had a 5-2 win over VA Wesleyan and picked up his second save in the 4-1 win over Averett.  In 11 innings pitched, he allowed 5 hits, 1 run, 2 walks and struck out 20.  Also nominated: Taylor DuFrene, Shenandoah, and Steve Augone, Greensboro

Softball Rookie of the Week
       Candace Hudgins, Methodist  - The freshman first baseman from Virginia Beach, VA,  was instrumental in the Monarchs going 4-1 this week.  She hit .471 with 5 RBI's and a homerun over the course of five games.    Also nominated: Alyssa Chapman, Shenandoah, and Becky Bond, Christopher Newport.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
     Tanya Lauranzon, N.C. Wesleyan  -  The freshman from Richmond, VA,  picked up two wins for the week - Randolph Macon and McDaniel - and a loss to Marietta (3-1).  She pitched 23 innings, giving up 24 hits and striking out 13 batters.  The Bishops were 5-3 for the week.  Also nominated: Alyssa Chapman, Shenandoah; Erica Brown, Greensboro; and Erica Rutledge, Peace.

Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
     Jennifer Donah, Greensboro - The freshman from Easthampton, MA, scored three goals and had 6 points in the Pride's win over Shenandoah (14-6).  Also nominated: Nikki Leonard, Shenandoah.

Men's Tennis Rookie Player of the Week
     John Mook, Christopher Newport - The Potomac Falls, VA, freshman went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in helping the Captains go 2-0 last week.  CNU defeated Lynchburg, 7-0, and Ferrum, 7-0.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
     Carrie Pacifico, Greensboro - The freshman from Charleston, WV,  went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles as the Pride had a 1-1 week.  She won at the #1 flight in singles and doubles.  Also nominated: Stefanie Leblang, Christopher Newport; Leighton Bull, Methodist; and Kirsi Turunen, Averett.
