                                                                         Players of the Week


Baseball Player of the Week
         Larry Lockhart, Greensboro - The senior outfielder from Monroe, NC,  hit .625 with four RBI's, a doubles, and a homerun.  The Pride were 1-1 last week as they defeated Tufts, 15-1, and suffered a 4-3 set back to Guilfored.   Also nominated: Josh Lipford, North Carolina Wesleyan; David Hoffman, Methodist; and Ricky Medina, Christopher Newport.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
         Blake Maxwell, Methodist- The Hope Mills, NC,  junior picked up a save and a win for the Monarchs last week.  He pitched 4 1/3 innings, not allowing a baserunner with seven strikeouts as he led Methodist to a 2-1 win over Chowan.    Also nominated: Eben Brower, Christopher Newport; and Blake Rice, North Carolina Wesyleyan.

Softball Player of the Week
         Melanie Legrow, Peace - The sophomore right fielder from Chapel Hill, NC, helped the Pacers go 4-0 on the week.  Over the course of four games, she hit .700 with four RBI's, three doubles and a double.  The Pacers defeated Guilford, 6-0, and 9-2 and  Meredith, 12-4, and 8-2.  Also nominated: Stacey McLenaghan, Averett; Kelly Cooper, Greensboro; and Kim McCall, Methodist.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
        Jennifer Sorensen, Methodist- The Jacksonville, junior had a 2-0 week  for Methodist.  She pitched 13 innings, with a 0.00 ERA as she gave up five hits while striking out nine.  Her wins came against Ferrum, 8-0 and against North Carolina Wesyleyan, 13-0.  The Monarchs were 4-0 last week with two wins over both Ferrum and North Carolina Wesleyan.  Also nominated: Heather Mull, Averett; Lauren Pleasant, Peace; Kristen Slade, Greensboro: and Michelle Kass-Prewitt, Christopher Newport.


Lacrosse Player of the Week
         Jenna Gast, Greensboro - The Salisbury, MD, sophomore played a key role in the Prides' 15-10 win over Methodist.  She earned 10 points as she scored five goals including the game winner in the victory.  Also nominated: Lauren McGonagle, Methodist.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
      P.G. Graine, Greensboro- The Greensboro, NC, sophomore  had a 1-0 week in singles and went 0-1 in doubles.  The Cougars went 0-3.  Grane remained undefeated (5-0) with a 6-4, 6-3 win at #1 singles flight against Guilford.  Also nominated: Sirsean Arlain, Averett.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
     Natalie Pitts, Christopher Newport - The junior from Frederick, MD,  went 2-0 in the #6 singles flight and 2-0 in doubles.  She led the Captains to a 2-0 week with wins against Averett and Mary Baldwin.   Also nominated: Elise Broverman, Greensboro.

Baseball Rookie of the Week
       Billy Quinn, Methodist - The freshman first baseman from Chapel Hill NC,  hit .438 over the course of five games and added four RBI's, and a double.  He was 8-for-10 in a two game sweep over Huntingdon including the game winning RBI in game one.  Methodist  was 3-2 as they swept Huntingdon, split with Chowan and fell to Tufts.   Also nominated: Ken Kellum, Averett; Matt Smith, North Carolina Wesleyan.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
      Kenny Moreland, Christopher Newport -  The freshman from Springfield, VA had a 5-4 win (13 innings) over Shenandoah.  In 4 2/3 innings pitched, he allowed no hits, walked one and struck out nine.  Also nominated: Kyle Robertson, North Carolina Wesleyan; Chase Cates, Methodist; and Kevin Showe, Greensboro.

Softball Rookie of the Week
       Beck Bond, Christopher Newport  - The freshman out fielder from Springfield, VA,  was 3-for-3 in the stolen base department.  She had a on-base percentage of .571 and a slugging percentage of .579 in five games as the Captains were 3-3 last week.   Also nominated: Sarah Heenon, Peace; Candace Hudgins, Methodist; and Jenee Johnson, Greensboro.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
     Erica Brown, Greensboro  -  The freshman from Randleman, NC,  picked up one win for the week - North Carolina Wesleyan, 6-1..  She pitched seven innings, giving up three hits, one run and striking out six batters.  The Pride were 2-0 for the week.  Also nominated: Tanya Lauranzon, North Carolina Wesleyan; and Joanie Blevins, Peace.

Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
     Caroline Young, Greensboro- The freshman from Orlando, FL, scored two goal and had two assists on her way to earning six points in the Pride's win over Methodist (15-0). 

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week
     Kirsi Turunen, Averett - The freshman from Turku, Finland,  went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles as the Cougars were 0-2 on the week.  She won twice at the #1 flight in singles and doubles.  Also nominated: Stefanie Leblang, Christopher Newport; and Carrie Pacifico, Greensboro.
