                                                                         Players of the Week


Baseball Player of the Week
         Ryan Snyder, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior second baseman from Plainville, CT  hit .429 with four RBI's and a homerun.  The Bishops were 2-2 last week as they defeated Christopher Newport 5-2 and 2-0, and loss 5-4 to Christopher Newport and 5-4 to Barton.   Also nominated: Brett Thomas, Ferrum; Matt Kleckner, Methodist; Adam Kuchemba, Shenandoah; Brad Melton, Christopher Newport; and Kevin Mong, Greensboro.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
         Ben Pearson, N.C. Wesleyan - The Culpeper, VA,  sophomore fired a complete game four-hit shutout against Christopher Newport with three strikeouts and one walk.  N.C. Wesleyan was 2-2 on the week as they took two from Christopher Newport and suffered setbacks to Barton and Christopher Newport.  Also nominated: Casey Davenport, Ferrum; and Adam Denning, Methodist.
  
Softball Player of the Week
         Holly Braswell, Peace - The sophomore designated player from Garner, NC, hit .600 with four RBI's and two home runs.  Braswell led the Pacers to a 3-1 week defeating Meredith College (7-2, 11-10) and then splitting with N.C. Wesleyan (1-2, 8-3).  Also nominated: Jami Reed, Ferrum; Courtney Tucker, N.C. Wesleyan; Ashley Abrams, Methodist, Kati Jimmo, Averett; and Jessica Clack, Greensboro.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
        Lauren Pleasant, Peace - The Raleigh NC, sophomore  had a 3-1 week  for the Pacers.  She pitched 26 innings, with a 0.60 ERA as she gave up 32 hits while striking out 19 batters.  Peace was 3-1 on the week with a split with N.C. Wesleyan on Saturday.  Also nominated: Jennifer Sorensen, Methodist;  Kim Cox, Ferrum.

Lacrosse Player of the Week
        Joia Davis, Shenandoah - The Trenton, NJ, sophomore earned 12 points as she scored 8 goals and 4 assists.  Davis scored the game winning goal in Shenandoah's 22-5 win over Bridgewater.  Also nominated: Amanda McGlaughlin, Greensboro; and Emily Neilsen, Methodist.

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
       David Gartell, Ferrum - The Hamilton, VA, junior  had a 3-0 week in singles and went 3-0 in doubles.  He helped Ferrum go 2-1 on the week including 2-0 in conference play.   Also nominated: Steven Inge, Christopher Newport; Keith Criscoe, Methodist, P.G. Grane, Greensboro.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
       Courtney Bull, Methodist - The senior from Berwick, PA,  went 3-0 in the #3 singles flight and 3-0 in #3 doubles flight.    She won her singles and doubles matches against Peace, Christopher Newport and Salisbury.   Also nominated: Sara McGlynn, Greensboro; and Natalie Pitts, Christopher Newport.



                                                                        Rookies of the Week
 

Baseball Rookie of the Week
       Billy Quinn, Methodist - The freshman first baseman/designated hitter from Chapel Hill, NC,  hit .375 over the course of two games and added a RBI, and three hits.  The Monarchs were 3-1 on the week with a loss at St. Andrews and then swept Greensboro over the weekend.  Also nominated; Matt Smith, N.C. Wesleyan.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
      Kevin Showe, Greensboro -  The freshman from Columbia, MD, pitched well against Methodist.  He pitched three innings, giving up only one hit and no runs.  Greensboro suffered three setbacks to Methodist over the weekend.

Softball Rookie of the Week
       Ashley Bass, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman shortstop from Midlothian, VA,  was 7-for-13 in four games.  She had two RBI's a homerun and a double to help the Bishops post a 3-1 record on the week.   Also nominated: Candace Hudgins, Methodist; Krystal Ellis, Ferrum; Jessica Bollinger, Shenandoah; Erica Rutledge, Peace; and Jenee, Johnson, Greensboro.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
     Libby Fulford, N.C. Wesleyan  -  The freshman from Rocky Mt., NC,  went 2-0 on the week as she appeared in three games.  She pitched 18.2 innings, giving up 16 hits as she struck out seven batters.  The Bishops were 3-1 for the week.  Also nominated: Tanna Bartek, Shenandoah; and Erica Brown, Greensboro.

Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
     Darcie Jones, Averett - The freshman from Common, VT, scored ten goals and earned ten points for the week. Jones scored all seven of Averett's goals against Ferrum..  Also nominated: Bridget, Holcomb, Methodist; Christina Denney, Greensboro; and Stephanie Perih, Ferrum.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
     Thomas James, Ferrum- The sophomore from Lawrenceville, GA,  went 3-0 in both singles and doubles last week.  James helped Ferrum go 2-1 on the week, including 2-0 in conference action.  Also nominated: John Mook, Christopher Newport.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week

     Tiffany Tucker - The freshman from Circleville, OH,  went, 3-0 in at #1 singles and 1-2 at 1# doubles as the Monarchs were 3-0 on the week.  Two of Tucker's three matchers were three set victories.  Also nominated: Susan Harris, Greensboro; Kirsi Turunen, Averett; and Amanda Hugill, Shenandoah.
