Athletes of the Week
Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Jonathan Rumley, Averett - The
junior guard from Winston Salem, North
Carolina led the Cougars as they
swept two games at the Piedmont College Holiday Classic. In the two
wins, Rumley averaged 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 4.0
steals per game. In a 74-70 win over Maryville, Rumley had a game-high
13 points with eight rebounds, four steals, two assists and two blocks.
In a 75-54 victory over Piedmont, Rumley nearly tallied a triple-double
as he scored 16 points, grabbed a game-high ten rebounds and dished out
a game-high eight assists. He also added four steals in the win. Also
Nominated: Davon Barton, Christopher Newport; Jeremiah Lawrence,
Shenandoah; Adam Nicholson, Greensboro; Jon Godsey, Ferrum.
Rookie of the Week
Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Derek Mitchell, Ferrum - The Newport News, Virginia freshman
forward averaged a double-double as the Panthers went 1-2 during the
holiday break. In the three games, Mitchell averaged 11.3 points, 10.7
rebounds, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks per game. In a 61-55 loss to
Division-I Winston-Salem State, Mitchell notched a double-double of 13
points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He also added a team-high two
blocks, one assist and one steal in the loss. In a 75-55 win over
Rhodes, Mitchell again tallied a double-double with 11 points and a
game-high 14 rebounds. He also contributed a team-high two steals, one
assist and one block in the win. Finally, in a 71-67 loss to Washington
& Lee, Mitchell scored ten points, grabbed six rebounds and added one
steal. Also Nominated: Rob Wyley, Averett.

selection, less than half of the women's Conference teams have competed,
therefore no women's basketball Players of the Week were selected. The
next selection will occur on Jan. 7 and include cumulative statistics
since Dec. 17.***
