Athletes of the Week

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
          Adam Nicholson, Greensboro - The senior guard from Landover, Maryland led The Pride to a 1-1 record last week. In the two games, Nicholson averaged 26.0 points, on 70% shooting (23-of-33) from the field, with 8.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. In an 88-85 win over Apprentice, Nicholson scored a game and career-high 30 points, with five assists, four rebounds and two steals. In an 100-99 loss to Emory & Henry, Nicholson tallied a double-double of 22 points and a game-high ten assists. He also added three rebounds and one steal in the defeat. Also Nominated: Davon Barton, Christopher Newport; Jeremiah Lawrence, Shenandoah; Lenny Hall, N.C. Wesleyan; Jon Godsey, Ferrum; Cory McDaniel, Averett; Travis Winstead, Methodist.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
         Colandra Rollins, Christopher Newport - The Culpeper, Virginia senior forward led the Captains to a 2-1 record since December 17. In the three contests, Rollins averaged 18.7 points, 15.3 rebounds, 2.3 steals and 1.0 assists per game. In a 79-72 win over Lynchburg, Rollins notched a double-double with game-highs in points, 23, and rebounds, 14. She also had two steals in the win. In a 67-52 loss to sixth-ranked Mary Washington, Rollins scored nine points, grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds and had a game-high three steals. Finally, in an 84-67 victory over USA South foe Meredith, Rollins tallied another double-double with 24 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Rollins also added three assists and two steals in the win. Also Nominated: Brittany Cornelius, Meredith; Stephanie Harrold, Shenandoah; Darcie Jones, Averett; Ali Davenport, Ferrum.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
      Derek Mitchell, Ferrum - The Newport News, Virginia freshman forward averaged a double-double for the second consecutive week as the Panthers went 1-1 at the Roanoke College Domino's New Year's Classic. In the two games, Mitchell averaged 15.0 points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 steals per contest. In an 101-92, overtime, win over Swarthmore, Mitchell notched a double-double of 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. He also added four steals, two assists and one block in the win. In an 83-67 loss to host-Roanoke in the championship game, Mitchell again tallied a double-double with a team-high 16 points and a game-high ten rebounds. Mitchell also dished out an assist in the loss and was named to the All-Tournament team for his efforts. Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
      Jessica Moore, Christopher Newport - The freshman guard/forward from Fredericksburg, Virginia helped
the Captains to a 2-1 record since December 17. In the three contests, Moore averaged 16.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. In a 79-72 win over Lynchburg, Moore contributed 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists and one steal. In a 67-52 loss to sixth-ranked Mary Washington, Moore scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds. Finally, in an 84-67 victory over USA South foe Meredith, Moore tallied a game and career-high 26 points with five rebounds.
