Football Offensive Player of the Week
Cedric
Townsend, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior quarterback from
Kenansville, North Carolina was responsible for six touchdowns, three
passing and three rushing, in the Bishops, 51-20, win over USA South foe
Maryville. Townsend contributed 285 yards of total offense as he
finished with 218 yards on 16-of-24 passing and 67 yards rushing on 20
carries. Also Nominated:

Football Defensive Player of the Week
Matt
Downey, Christopher Newport - The Alexandria, Virginia
junior linebacker was tied for the team-high in total tackles with nine
as the Captains shutout USA South rival Shenandoah, 42-0. Downey had one
solo tackle and eight assisted take downs. He also added one tackle for
loss, which was a sack, for 12 yards. Also nominated: Shawn Green,
Ferrum; Chris Harris, Greensboro; Brodis Brown, Shenandoah; Zane Cooper,
Averett.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Torrey
Lowe, Greensboro - The Southern Pines, North Carolina
junior kick returner accounted for 129 yards on three returns in a 41-36
loss to Guilford. Lowe returned a second quarter kickoff 79 yards for a
touchdown to bring The Pride to within four points of the Quakers. On
offense, Lowe had one rushing touchdown and two receiving scores. Also
nominated: Tony Spradlin, Christopher Newport; Brian Vaughn, N.C.
Wesleyan; Chris Dooley, Shenandoah.
Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Evan Monteiro, Methodist - The junior forward
from Jupiter, Florida scored three goals during a 1-1 week for the
Monarchs. In a 6-1 win over USA South foe Averett, Monteiro tallied a
hat trick with three goals on five shots. Monteiro scored Methodist's
first, third and fifth goals of the game. In a 2-0 loss to ninth-ranked
N.C. Wesleyan, Monteiro was held scoreless but did manage to have one of
the three Monarch shots on goal. Also Nominated:

Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Jason Bottani, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior defender from
Pompton Lakes, New Jersey anchored the Bishop defense to two shutouts
and a 2-0 record last week. In an 8-0 win over Chowan, Bottani helped
hold the Hawks to just two shots on goal. In a 2-0 win over USA South
rival Methodist, Bottani and the Bishops held the Monarchs to three shots
on goal. Offensively against Methodist, Bottani scored the game-winning
goal in the 13th minute. Also Nominated:

Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Ashley
Cabral, Greensboro - The West Haven, Connecticut
senior forward scored six goals and added one assist for 13 points in a
1-1 week
for The Pride. In a 4-1 loss to USA South foe Christopher Newport,
Cabral tallied
the lone Greensboro score of the game. In a 9-1 win over USA South rival
Shenandoah, Cabral tied the school record for goals in a game with five.
She also added an assist in the victory to finish with 11 points. Also Nominated:

Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Sarah
Chadwick, Meredith - The Jacksonville, North Carolina
freshman goalkeeper started each game last week and helped the Avenging
Angels to a 2-1 record.
In the three contests, Chadwick allowed three goals, recorded one shutout
and stopped 12
shots. In a 5-0 win over USA South foe Ferrum, Chadwick stopped two
shots and earned her third shutout of the season. In a 3-2 loss at
Marymount, Chadwick made a week-high eight saves. Finally, in an 11-1
win at conference foe Mary Baldwin, Chadwick stopped two shots. Also nominated:
Mary Caitlin Smith, Peace.
Volleyball Player of the Week
Brittany
Collins,
Christopher Newport -
The senior setter from Richmond, Virginia led the
Captains to a 4-0 record last week. In
ten games, Collins posted 93 assists, 29 digs, 16 kills, five aces and
four blocks. In a 3-0 win over Shenandoah, Collins appeared in just two
games and had
25 assists, seven digs, three kills, three service aces and one block. In a 3-0 victory over
Division-I Hampton, Collins tallied 28 assists, four kills, four digs and
one block. In a 3-0 win over
Greensboro, Collins contributed 26 assists, eight digs, a week-high
seven kills, two service aces and two blocks. Finally, in a 3-0 win over
Methodist, Collins again appeared in just two games and tallied a
double-double of 14 assists and ten digs. She also had two kills in the

Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Jordan Grady,
Methodist -
The sophomore libero from Erwin, North Carolina did all she could
defensively as the
Monarchs went 1-2 last week, all against USA South competition.
In ten games, Grady posted 74 digs, seven service aces and six assists.
In each of the three contests, Grady's dig totals were match-highs. In a 3-1 win over
N.C. Wesleyan, Grady had 28 digs, a match-high six service aces and two
assists. In a 3-0 loss to Christopher Newport, Grady tallied
21 digs with three assists and one service ace. Finally, in a 3-0 loss
to Ferrum, Grady contributed 25 digs and one service ace. Also nominated:

Christopher Newport; Meredith Schwane, Averett.
Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
David
Woodson, Christopher Newport - The junior from
Gloucester, Virginia led the Captains to an 11th place finish at the
Paul Short Invitational. Woodson completed the
8K course in a time of 26:45 which was good for 29th overall out of 266
runners. Also Nominated: Francois Theriault, Greensboro.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Amy
Wampler, Christopher Newport - The sophomore from
Spotsylvania, Virginia set a new personal best as she led the Captains to a
12th place finish at the
Paul Short Invitational. Wampler completed the
6K course in a time of 23:13 which was good for tenth overall out of 239
runners. Her tenth-place finish is the highest finish of any CNU runner
at the prestigious meet. Also, Wampler's time is the sixth best 6k run
in school history. Also Nominated: Jordan Joyce, Greensboro; Kathryn
Stephens, Mary Baldwin; Jessica Panameno, Meredith.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Mike
Vann, Ferrum - The freshman running back from
Woodbridge, Virginia tied the USA South record for rushing touchdowns in
a game and broke the conference and school record for longest rushing
touchdown in the Panthers,
48-20, win over USA South rival Averett. Vann ran the ball 12 times for 187 yards,
good for a 15.6-yard average, with three touchdowns. His record-breaking
run was a 94-yarder in the second quarter to give Ferrum a 28-point
lead. Vann also caught one pass which was good for a 20-yard touchdown.
Finally, Vann returned a third quarter kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. In
all, Vann accounted for 327 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns. Also
Nominated: James Heasty, Greensboro; Blake Nuzzo, Averett; Raphael Amey,
Shenandoah.

Vaughn, Christopher Newport - The freshman linebacker from
Chesapeake, Virginia was tied for the team-high in total tackles with
nine as the Captains shutout USA South rival Shenandoah, 42-0. Vaughn

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Stanley
Abada, Averett - The freshman forward
from St. Paul, Minnesota led the Averett offense, despite its 0-2 mark
last week. In a 6-1 loss to USA South foe Methodist, Abada scored the
Cougars only goal of the game. In a 2-0 loss to conference rival
Christopher Newport, Abada was held scoreless but did manage a team-high
three shots. Also Nominated: Marco Kirsch, N.C. Wesleyan.
Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Alex
Calvert, Meredith - The Wilson, North Carolina freshman midfielder scored
four goals and added two assists for ten points in a 2-1 week for the
Avenging Angels. In a 5-0 win over USA South foe Ferrum, Calvert was
credited with an assist off a corner kick. In a 3-2 loss at Marymount,
Calvert opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute. Finally, in
an 11-1 victory over USA South rival Mary Baldwin, Calvert tallied her
first collegiate hat trick by scoring three goals. She also added an
assist in the victory to total seven points. Also nominated:

Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Ryann Lowery, Christopher Newport - The freshman setter from
Centreville, Virginia helped the
Captains to a 4-0 record last week. In
five games, Lowery posted 37 assists, nine service aces, eight digs and
three kills. In a 3-0 win over Shenandoah, Lowery came off the bench and had
16 assists, four service aces, two digs and two kills. In a 3-0 victory over
Division-I Hampton, Lowery appeared in one game and tallied six assists,
two digs and one service ace. In a 3-0 win over
Greensboro, Lowery did not appear in the contest. Finally, in a 3-0 win over
Methodist, Lowery appeared in two games, posting might-highs for assists
and service aces with 15 and four, respectively. She also had four digs
and one kill in the victory. Also

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Jack
Tierney, Christopher Newport - The freshman from
O'Fallon, Illinois helped the Captains to an 11th place finish at the
Paul Short Invitational. Tierney completed the
8K course in a time of 27:54 which was good for 92nd overall out of 266
runners.
Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Edie
Nault - The freshman from
Poquoson, Virginia helped the Captains to a 12th place finish at the
Paul Short Invitational. Nault completed the
6K course in a time of 25:24 which was good for 111th overall out of 266
runners. Also Nominated: Lauren McDonald, Meredith; Holly Breen, Mary
Baldwin; Tiffany Austin, Greensboro.
