Football Offensive Player of the Week
Mike
Thomas, Christopher Newport - The junior running back
from Washington, D.C. rushed for a school record 239 yards as the
Captains defeated USA South foe Methodist, 24-17.
Thomas scored one rushing touchdown while averaging 8.0 yards per carry
on 30 attempts. His lone score of the game helped CNU tie the game in
the third quarter. Also Nominated: Patrick Doleman, Methodist; Bryan
Haywood, N.C. Wesleyan; Dontavious Watson, Averett; Torrey Lowe,
Greensboro.
Football Defensive Player of the Week
Brick
Crowder, Greensboro - The LaGrange, North Carolina
sophomore linebacker recorded the second most tackles in school history in a
21-19 win over USA South foe Averett.
Crowder made a game-high 23 total tackles which included eight solo
tackles and 15 assisted take downs. Crowder also had 2.5 tackles for a
total of three yards lost. Also nominated: Quinderra Spellman, N.C.
Wesleyan; Daryl Lawrence, Methodist; Jeremy Croom, Christopher Newport.
Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Nathan
Wooten, Greensboro - The Mt. Holly, North Carolina
senior defensive tackle blocked the potential game-winning field goal in
The Pride's, 21-19,
win over USA South foe Averett. The Cougars were attempting a 40-yard
field goal with 54 seconds left when Wooten made the block. On defense,
Wooten had four assisted tackles, one of which was for a loss of three
yards. Also nominated: Chris Dooley, Shenandoah.
Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Eric Hatchett, Greensboro - The senior forward from
Gibsonville, North Carolina scored three goals during a 1-1 week for The
Pride. All three goals came in a 12-0 win over Chowan as Hatchett
recorded his first hat trick of the season. In a 2-1, overtime, loss to
nationally-ranked Emory, Hatchett was held scoreless but did manage six
shots. Also Nominated: Kevin Lue, N.C. Wesleyan.
Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Sean Brennan, Methodist - The senior
goalkeeper from Chesterfield, Virginia earned a shutout win over
Randolph-Macon in the Monarchs only action last week. Brennan made seven
saves as Methodist was victorious, 2-0. Also Nominated: Alberto Faisca,
N.C. Wesleyan.
Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Whitney
Roberson, Methodist - The Kitty Hawk, North Carolina
sophomore forward scored two goals
in a 1-1 week for the Monarchs. In a 2-1 loss to Rhodes, Roberson was
held scoreless but manage two shots. In a 2-0 win over
regionally-ranked, USA South
foe Christopher Newport, Roberson scored the only two goals of the game
to help the Monarchs remain undefeated in conference play. Also Nominated:
Tessa Hall, Greensboro; Corinne Musanti, Ferrum; Harlonda Smith, Peace;
Anna Buryk, Meredith.
Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
Amanda
Johnson, Greensboro - The Millersville, Maryland junior defender anchored a defense which did not allow a goal in two
shutout wins last week for The Pride. In a 2-0 win over Chowan, Johnson
helped limit the Hawks to just five total shots. In a 2-0 win over USA
South foe Meredith, Johnson scored the eventual game-winning goal as The
Pride defense held the Avenging Angels to three total shots. Also
Nominated: Kasey Nichols, Methodist.
Volleyball Player of the Week
Mindy Altice,
Ferrum -
The senior outside hitter from Wirtz, Virginia helped the Panthers
to a 3-1 record last week. In 12 games, Altice posted 64 kills, a .467
hitting percentage, 35 digs, four blocks, three service aces and two
assists. In a 3-0 loss to Lynchburg, Altice had a team-high nine kills with
three blocks, two digs and one service.
In a 3-0 win over USA South rival Averett, Altice tallied a
double-double with a match-high 25 kills and 15 digs. Altice also added
one assist as Ferrum ended a 12-year, 30-match, losing streak to
Averett. In a 3-0 win over USA South foe Peace, Altice had a match-high
17 kills with eight digs, two service aces, one assist and one block. Finally,
in a 3-0 win over USA South foe Meredith, Altice accumulated her second
double-double of the week with 13 kills and a match-high ten digs. Also nominated:
Kehsia Judd, Greensboro; Kasey Carpenter, Averett; Allie Wolfe,
Christopher Newport; Sara Yeatman, Methodist.
Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week
Meredith
Schwane, Averett -
The junior defensive specialist from Raleigh, North Carolina helped
the Cougars to a 2-1 record last week all versus USA South competition. In
nine games,
Schwane posted 45 digs, seven service aces, four kills and three assists. In a
3-0 loss to Ferrum, Schwane had nine digs with one service ace. In a 3-0 win over
Shenandoah, Schwane tallied 15 digs with
four service aces, three kills and two assists. Finally, in a 3-0 win over
Methodist, Schwane contributed
a match-high 21 digs with two service aces, one kill and one assist. Also nominated:
Kacie Hyatt, Greensboro; Laruen Thurman, Ferrum; Christie Kirby,
Christopher Newport; Jordan Grady, Methodist.
Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Amy Wampler, Christopher Newport -
The sophomore from Spotsylvania, Virginia led the Captains to a
ninth place finish at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational on October 13.
Wampler completed the 5K course in a time
of 19:41 which was good for 16th overall out of 197 runners. Also
Nominated: Krystal Patton, Methodist; Jessica Panameno, Meredith.

Harris, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman running back
from Portsmouth, Virginia rushed seven times for 55 yards in a 41-9 win
over USA South foe Shenandoah. Harris averaged 7.9 yards per carry off
the bench in the victory. Also Nominated: William Varas, Averett;
Raphael Amey, Shenandoah.

Diggs, Christopher Newport - The freshman linebacker from
Smithfield, Virginia had the second-most tackles for the Captains in
their,
24-17, win over USA South foe Methodist. Diggs finished with eight total
tackles which included six solo tackles, two assisted take downs and a game-high
two tackles for loss. Also Nominated:
Blake Campbell, Shenandoah.
Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Marco
Kirsch, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman midfielder from
Celle, Germany scored two goals and added one assist during a 2-0 week for
the Bishops. In a 2-1 win over Guilford, Kirsch scored the game's first
goal in the 22nd minute. In a 2-0 win over Villa Julie, Kirsch again
scored the game's first goal, this time in the 8th minute, then assisted
on the final score of the contest. Also Nominated: Kjell Crooke,
Greensboro; Chris Wondree, Shenandoah.
Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Krista
Pattison, Shenandoah - The Radford, Virginia freshman
midfielder scored four goals, including the game-winner, in a 9-1 win
over USA South rival Averett in the Hornets only action of the week.
Pattison scored the first, third, fifth and seventh goals of the game
for Shenandoah. Also nominated:
Katie Allegro, Greensboro; Maggie Reaves, Peace; Katie Hodkinson,
Ferrum; Alex Calvert,
Meredith.
Volleyball Rookie of the Week
Michelle Gabson, Greensboro - The freshman middle hitter
from Apex, North Carolina helped The Pride to a 3-0 record versus USA
South competition last week.
In 11 games, Gabson posted 39 kills, 12 digs, seven blocks and five service aces. In a 3-0
win over Peace, Gabson had
ten kills, three service aces, two digs and two blocks. In a 3-0 win over
Mary Baldwin, Gabson had a team-high 14 kills with two digs and two
blocks. Finally, in a 3-2 win over N.C. Wesleyan, Gabson tallied a
week-high 15 kills with eight digs, three blocks and two service aces.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Diane Doroftei, Methodist -
The junior from Jupiter, Florida, in her first year of collegiate
running, helped the Monarchs win the Methodist 5K on October 10.
Doroftei finished third overall out of 20 competitors
in a time of 22:59. Also Nominated: Hannah Worley, Meredith.
