Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Jeremiah Lawrence, Shenandoah - The senior forward from
Forestville, Maryland led the Hornets to a 1-1 weekend at the Jimmy V
Classic Tournament hosted by Roanoke College.
He averaged 21.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 assists per
contest. In an 87-68 win over Frostburg State, Lawrence earned a
double-double by scoring a game-high 21 points and grabbing a
contest-best ten rebounds. Lawrence also blocked one shot and was
9-for-10 at the free throw line in the win. In a 75-71 loss to host
Roanoke, Lawrence again notched a double-double with 21 points and 11
rebounds. He also blocked three shots, dished out three assists and
grabbed one steal in the loss. For his efforts,
Lawrence received All-Tournament honors. Also nominated: Jerrell Wade,
Ferrum; Damien Brown, Averett; Adam Nicholson, Greensboro; Billy McDade,
Methodist.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Jessica
Carter, Mary Baldwin - The Charlottesville,
Virginia senior guard
was instrumental in the Squirrels winning the College of Notre Dame
(Md.) Tip-Off Tournament. In two games, Carter averaged 30.0 points,
4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per contest. In a 64-59 win
over Bryn Mawr, Carter had a game-high 26 points, on 10-of-20
shooting from the field, with five rebounds, three assists and three
steals. In the tournament final, an 87-68 win over host Notre Dame (Md.), Carter hit six three-point baskets
en route to a game-high 34 points. She also added five assists, three
rebounds and three steals in the win.
For her efforts,
Carter was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Rookies of the Week
Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Careem Corbett, N.C. Wesleyan - The Raleigh, North Carolina
freshman forward helped the Bishops to a 1-1 record at the Virginia
Wesleyan Tip-Off Classic this past weekend. Corbett averaged 7.0 points,
10.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists per contest. In a
73-70 win over Rutgers-Newark, Corbett grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds
while scoring four points, dishing out two assists and getting one
steal. In an 83-60 loss to host Virginia Wesleyan, Corbett contributed
ten points and eight rebounds.
For his efforts, Corbett received All-Tournament honors. Also nominated:
Marcus Mayo, Ferrum.
Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Danielle Duncan, Greensboro - The freshman
forward from Greensboro, North Carolina
helped The Pride to a 1-1 record at the Hunter College Tournament
this past weekend. In the two games, Duncan averaged a double-double of
23.5 points and
12.5 rebounds per game. In her first collegiate game, Duncan notched a
double-double by scoring 28 points and grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds
in a 66-55 loss to Bridgewater. In a 72-53 win over host Hunter, Duncan
again tallied a double-double with 19 points and ten rebounds. For her efforts,
Duncan received All-Tournament
honors. Also nominated: Kerra Gore, Peace; Whitley Turner, Meredith;
Kierra Parker, Ferrum; Desiree' Driver, N.C. Wesleyan; Ashley
Washington, Averett.
