Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Jonathan Rumley, Averett - The junior guard from
Winston Salem, North Carolina led the Cougars to a 1-1 record last week.
Rumley averaged 20.5 points, on 63.6% shooting from the field, 6.5 rebounds,
4.0 steals and 3.5 assists per
contest. In a 99-83 win over Hampden-Sydney, Rumley scored 22 points,
grabbed a team-high six rebounds, got a game-high six steals and dished
out three assists. In a 74-73 loss at Apprentice School, Rumley
contributed 19 points, seven rebounds, a team-high four assists and two
steals. Also nominated: Lenny Hall, N.C. Wesleyan; Billy McDade,
Methodist; Onyie Onunaku, Shenandoah; Adam Nicholson, Greensboro.
Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Colandra
Rollins, Christopher Newport - The Culpeper,
Virginia senior forward led the Captains to a 2-0 record last week. In
the two games, Rollins averaged 25.0 points,
on 52.9% shooting from the field, 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0
blocks per contest. In a 79-60 win
over Trinity, Rollins had a co-team-high 22 points, including a
10-for-10 effort from the free-throw line, with five rebounds and two
assists. In a 98-57 win over Hood, Rollins scored 28 points, grabbed
eight rebounds, blocked two shots and had one steal. Also nominated: Ali
Davenport, Ferrum; Christie Hamilton, Mary Baldwin; LeAnne Horne, Peace;
Ashley Harris, Methodist; Nicole Hall, Meredith; Cheyenne Hall, N.C.

Rookies of the Week
Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Kevin Kline, Shenandoah - The Waynesboro, Pennsylvania
freshman center helped the Hornets to a 2-0 record last week. Kline averaged
3.5 points,
7.0 rebounds and 1.0 steals per contest. In an 85-64 win over Eastern
Mennonite, Kline scored two points and grabbed four rebounds. In
Shenandoah's first-ever victory over a Division-I opponent, a 78-75 win
over Houston-Baptist, Kline scored five points, grabbed a game-high ten
rebounds and got two steals.
Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Chelsie Schweers, Christopher
Newport - The freshman
guard from Chesapeake, Virginia
helped the Captains to a 2-0 record last week. In the two games,
Schweers averaged 25.5 points, on 63.3% shooting from the field, 3.5
rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals per contest. In her first collegiate game,
Schweers scored a co-team-high 22 points with two assists, one rebound,
one block and one steal
in a 79-60 win over Trinity. In a 98-57 win over Hood, Schweers scored a
game-high 29 points, on 75% shooting from the floor. She also added six
rebounds, five assists and one steal in the victory. Also nominated:
Kierra Parker, Ferrum; Gretchen Tobias, N.C. Wesleyan; Nikki Wilborn,
Greensboro; Whitley Turner, Meredith.
