Athletes of the Week

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
          Jeremiah Lawrence, Shenandoah - The senior forward from Forestville, Maryland led the Hornets to a 2-0 record last week. Lawrence averaged 24.0 points, on 64% (16-of-25) shooting from the field, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in the two games. In a 77-60 win over Frostburg State, Lawrence scored a game-high 26 points while grabbing seven rebounds and blocking three shots. In a 76-68 victory over Division-II Shippensburg, Lawrence tallied a game-high 22 points with eight rebounds, two blocks, one assist and one steal. Also nominated: Jonathan Rumley, Averett; Adam Nicholson, Greensboro.

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
         Ali Davenport, Ferrum - The Baton Rouge, Louisiana senior guard led the Panthers to an 87-44 win over Emory & Henry in the team's only game last week. Davenport scored a co-game-high 12 points, on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor, with three steals and two rebounds.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
      Derek Mitchell, Ferrum - The Newport News, Virginia freshman guard helped the Panthers to a 2-0 record last week. Mitchell averaged a double-double of 18.0 points, while shooting 83% (15-of-18) from the field, and 11.5 rebounds per contest. Mitchell also averaged 2.5 steals and 2.0 blocks per game last week. In a 77-62 win over Lynchburg, Mitchell notched a double-double with a team-high 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He also added a blocked shot in the win. In a 61-55 victory over Lancaster Bible, Mitchell again tallied a double-double with a team-high 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Mitchell also had five steals and three blocked shots in the victory. Also nominated: Conley Taylor, Christopher Newport; Adam Powell, Greensboro.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
      Sierra Edwards, Shenandoah - The freshman forward from Leesburg, Virginia helped the Hornets to a 68-53 win over Trinity in their only action last week. Edwards scored a game-high 16 points, on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, with three steals and two rebounds.
Also nominated: Brittany York, Averett; Brittany Bullock, Ferrum.
