Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Travis McBryde, Methodist - The junior forward from
Fayetteville, North Carolina led the Monarchs to a 2-0 record last week.
Coming of the bench in each game, McBryde averaged 21 minutes of court
time and scored 24.5 points, on 79% (23-of-29) shooting from the field,
per contest. He also averaged 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in the two
games. In a 142-119 win over Emory
& Henry, McBryde notched a double-double with game-highs in points,
with 35, and rebounds with 15. He also added two assists and a steal in
the win. In an 88-78 victory over LaGrange, McBryde scored 14 points,
grabbed a rebound and blocked a shot. Also nominated:

Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Meredith - The Raleigh, North Carolina senior
guard nearly tallied a triple-double in leading the Avenging Angels to a
76-58 win over Salem in their only action last week. In the game, Hall
notched a double-double by scoring 17 points and grabbing a game-high 13
rebounds. She also added nine assists, five steals and three blocks in
the win. Also nominated: Chelsale Hester, Methodist; Ismanie Elmore,
Greensboro; Colandra Rollins, Christopher Newport.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week

Smith, Methodist - The Clarkston, North Carolina freshman guard helped the
Monarchs to a 2-0 record last week. Smith averaged 19.5 points, while
shooting 80% (16-of-20) from the field, with 3.5 assists, 2.5 rebounds and
2.5 steals per contest. In a 142-119 win over Emory & Henry, Smith scored
20 points, dished out three assists and grabbed three rebounds. In an
88-78 victory over LaGrange, Smith tallied a team-high 19 points with
five steals, four assists and two rebounds. Also nominated:
Kevin Kline, Shenandoah; Adam Powell, Greensboro; Derek Mitchell,
Ferrum.
Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Ashley Washington, Averett - The freshman
forward from Shelby, North Carolina did all she could in a 68-51 loss to
Bridgewater in the Cougars' only action of last week. Washington notched
her third double-double of the season as she tallied game-highs in
points, with 21, and rebounds with 17. She also added two steals and was
7-of-11 from the free throw line. Also nominated: Nikki Wilborn,
Greensboro; Whitley Turner, Meredith; Chelsie Schweers, Christopher
Newport.
