Thompson Named USA South Coordinator of Baseball Officials

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced the addition of Tony Thompson as Coordinator of Baseball Officials. For this upcoming spring, Thompson will begin his duties with the USA South by organizing the officials for the 2018 Conference Tournament. For the 2019 season, Thompson's role will expand as he will be tasked with assigning umpires for each USA South conference contest as well as the League Tournament.

Thompson has a plethora of experience at all levels of collegiate baseball. During his 30-plus years of official coordination, Thompson has assigned officials for Conference regular season, Conference Tournament and National Tournament play. He has also served on NCAA regional and national committees. Thompson currently remains the coordinator of the umpires for the Atlantic 10 Conference (Division I), the Peach Belt Conference (Division II), the Southern Conference (Division I) and the Southern States Athletic Conference (NAIA). Prior to his work as a coordinator, Thompson was a professional umpire from 1978-1983.

"We are extremely excited to name Tony as the baseball officials coordinator of the USA South," Commissioner Tom Hart said. "Having one professional to coordinate scheduling and establish standards are critical in a conference with 13 baseball-playing members. Tony's experience, location and network of umpires will provide the USA South with consistent coverage from Alabama through Virginia."
