LaGrange College, under the direction of fifth-year Head Coach David Kelton, was picked to win the USA South Athletic Conference 2018 baseball title in the preseason coaches poll. Last spring, the Panthers captured their first USA South Regular Season and Tournament titles. LaGrange received seven of 12 first-place votes and 107 points as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting for the USA South preseason poll.
This season, the Conference welcomes new League members Berea College, Brevard College and Pfeiffer University. Brevard and Pfeiffer will not be included in the polls as they are each reclassifying from Division II and are not eligible for championship honors this season.
Piedmont College, last year's tournament runners-up, ranked second in the poll with 98 points and final remaining five first place votes. Ferrum College and Maryville College each collected 90 points to rank tied for third. In fifth place with 88 points was N.C. Wesleyan College while Greensboro College followed in sixth with 83 points to round out the top-half of the poll.
The 2018 campaign gets underway on Friday, February 2nd as four League teams are in action.
The 2018 USA South Baseball Tournament will be played April 11-14 at LaGrange's Phil Williamson Stadium at Cleaveland Field in LaGrange, Georgia as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival, hosted by the City of LaGrange and Troup County. The top-eight teams following regular season play will advance to the double-elimination tournament.
