Piedmont Announces Golf Staff Hirings
DEMOREST , Georgia – The Piedmont College Department of Athletics has announced a pair of additions to the men's and women's golf coach as Michael McMunn has been the head coach of both programs while Matt Kelly has been appointed the programs' assistant coach.
McMunn comes to Demorest from Tuscaloosa, AL where he has most recently served at the Assistant Pro at Ol' Colony Golf Complex which is the home of the SEC Champion University of Alabama. His duties also include being the Assistant Director of the First Tee of Tuscaloosa for the past three years.
Prior to joining the golf staff at Ol'Colony he completed an internship for the University of Alabama men's golf team under head coach Jay Seawell and former assistant and current Vanderbilt University head coach Scott Limbaugh. He has also served a s a golf instructor at numerous UA golf camps and clinics.
McMunn, who is a PGA Apprentice, also carries certification as a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Certified Level I Golf Fitness Instructor. The Athens, AL native graduated from UA in 2010 with a degree in Human Performance Exercise Science.
Kelly comes to PC fresh off a stellar four-year playing career at fellow NCAA Division III school Birmingham Southern College. He was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Jason Buha as he competed in 36 collegiate events highlighted by being named the team's Most Valuable Player in 2010-11. He was also a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll in 2010 and 2012.
The Atlanta, GA native graduated from BSC with a degree in Economics and was active on campus serving at both a Hall Director and Resident Advisor. Kelly graduated from Woodward Academy in 2008 after earning the school's McKay Award for outstanding leadership as the school's Student Government President.
Kelly is currently wrapping up the summer as an Assistant Junior Golf Instructor at the County Club of the South under Oglethorpe University assistant coach David Potts.
The duo will work with current PC Director of Golf Lee Glenn and will assume their duties in early August.
