Ferrum Women's Basketball Cracks D3hoops.com Poll

FERRUM, Va. -- The Ferrum College women's basketball team has cracked the top 25 in the D3hoops.com week five poll, debuting at #22.  Coach Bryan Harvey's team picked up key wins recently over #17 Rhodes College and USA South powerhouse Maryville College, both on the road.

Ferrum is off to a 6-0 start, and boasts a 2-0 mark in the USA South.  The Panthers feature five players averaging in double-figure scoring; Shea Smith (14.2 ppg), Jacole Hairston (13.5 ppg), Kylene Culler (11.5 ppg), Katy Kipps (11.5 ppg), and Boreika Burwell (10.2).  Kayla Goins in averaging 8.0 points per game.

The Panthers are averaging 83.3 points per game through six games, while holding opponents to 67.2 points per game.  Harvey's squad is also out-rebounding opponents 42.8-35.

Ferrum plays next on Tuesday, Jan. 7, at Lynchburg College.  The non-conference game gets underway at 7:00 p.m. in Lynchburg, Virginia.  The Panthers then play at USA South opponent Averett University Saturday, Jan. 11, and at home Sunday, Jan. 12, against non-conference foe The Apprentice School.
