USA South Lacrosse Awards Announced

(FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.) - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its All-Conference awards for lacrosse.  A total of 37 student-athletes have been named to the USA South All-Conference teams for lacrosse.  Methodist College's Lindsey West has been named the Player of the Year and Averett University's Vanessa Jordan is the Rookie of the Year.  Averett head coach Katie Talbert is the 2006 Coach of the Year.

West, a senior from Davidsonville, Md., was third in the conference in; goals per game, assists per game and points per game.  She was instrumental in the Monarchs finishing third in the conference, as they posted a 11-3 overall record and 3-2 record in the USA South.  West recorded 59 goals and 29 assists on the year.  This marks her third consecutive year receiving First Team All-Conference as she earned First Team honors in 2005 and 2004.

A freshman from Westbrook Maine, Jordan recorded 59 goals and 11 assists this past season.  Jordan took 105 shots this season and 93 of those shots were shots on goal.  She helped the Cougars earn a fourth seed in the upcoming tournament as they finished 3-3 in the Conference and 9-6 overall.

Talbert, in her second year at the helm of the Cougars, led the team to their best record (9-6) in the program's history.  With a 11-3 win over Shenandoah on Feb. 26 the Cougars claimed their first win in school history.  Averett enters this week's conference tournament as the No. 4 seed after finishing the USA South regular season, 3-3.
