CNU Women's Lacrosse Heads to Catholic for NCAA First Round
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The NCAA DIvision III Women's Lacrosse Tournament Committee has released the 2012 bracket and the Captains will be traveling to Catholic University for the first round on Wednesday, May 9. The winner will advance to play the winner of Redlands versus Occidental in a neutral site game played at Salisbury University.
The Captains earned an automatic bid to the tournament after winning the USA South Conference Tournament for the 7th straight year. The Captains finished out the year with a 15-3 record playing No. 1 Salisbury in their last game of the season. The Captains' three losses came to nationally ranked Washington and Lee, Mary Washington and Salisbury.
Catholic is 14-5 and shares the same three losses as the Captains and also dropped contests against nationally ranked Trinity (Conn.) and Gettysburg. The Cardinals are coming off their fifth straight Landmark Conference Tournament Championship with a 12-10 win over Susquehanna.
This will be the third time the two teams have met in the first round of the tournament. Catholic has advanced each time, most recently in 2010 with a 19-9 win.
Game time is set for 3:00pm.
