2018 USA South Women's Lacrosse Awards Announced

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2018 All-Conference awards for women's lacrosse. Meredith College swept the individual honors as Carlee Joseph was named Player of the Year, Lilia Cruz earned Rookie of the Year while Lauren Scott collected Coach of the Year. Finally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.

All honors were determined by votes from the women's lacrosse coach at each institution.

Joseph, a senior attacker from Hollywood, Maryland was named USA South Player of the Year for the third consecutive year. She adds this latest honor to her Rookie of the Year accolades from three seasons ago to become the only USA South women's lacrosse player to be named Player of the Year three times plus Rookie of the Year. She currently has complied 77 points on 59 goals and 18 assists. She is the USA South's all-time leader in career goals scored and is one point away from owning that career League record as well. Against USA South competition-only, Joseph tallied 55 points on 41 goals and 14 assists. For her efforts, she earned First Team All-Conference accolades as an attacker for the third consecutive season after collecting second team honors during her rookie campaign. Finally, Joseph was named USA South Player of the Week twice this spring.

Cruz, a freshman attacker from Great Mills, Maryland currently has totaled 60 points on 31 goals and a League rookie best 29 assists. Cruz has also added 23 ground balls and five caused turnovers this spring. In USA South-action only, Cruz had a Conference-best 23 assists to go along with 45 points and 22 goals. For her efforts, Cruz earned First Team All-Conference honors as an attacker this season. Finally, she was named USA South Rookie of the Week once this year.

In her sixth season at Meredith, Scott collects her third USA South Coach of the Year honor. This spring, Scott has led the Avenging Angels to a 12-3 overall record and a third consecutive unbeaten season in League play. With a single-season Conference record nine League wins (9-0), Meredith earned its third straight USA South Regular Season crown. The Avenging Angels have now won 24 consecutive regular season Conference games and head into the semifinals of the USA South Tournament as the top-seed with hopes of capturing their fifth straight title.
