Alden Wright, Maryville - The sophomore designated hitter from Clayton, GA went a combined 9-for-13 (.692) with a .765 on-base percentage and a .846 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, three RBI, one triple, three walks and one stolen base as the Scots notched a 4-0 record last week. In a 4-1 win over Berry, Wright was a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored, one triple and one stolen base. In a three-game sweep of USA South rival Berea, Wright was a combined 5-for-9 with one run scored, three RBI and three walks. Will Hicks, Greensboro - The junior from Mt. Pleasant, North Carolina earned a complete-game win over nationally-ranked USA South foe Methodist in one of his two appearances on the mound last week for the Pride. In the 7-4 victory, Hicks allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits with eight walks and four strikeouts. In his other appearance of the week, Hicks pitched one inning of relief against Virginia Wesleyan, allowing one run on no hits with two walks and one strikeout. Jack Layrisson, LaGrange - The freshman infielder from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida went a combined 9-for-16 (.563) with a .579 on-base percentage and a .750 slugging percentage to go along with six runs scored, 12 RBI, one double, one triple, two walks and one stolen base as the Panthers notched a 3-1 record last week. In a 17-3 win over Oglethorpe, Layrisson was 3-for-4 with one run scored, five RBI and one triple. In taking two games in a three-game series with USA South foe Piedmont, Layrisson was a combined 6-for-12 with five runs scored, seven RBI, one double, two walks and one stolen base. Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Gibson Bittner, LaGrange - The freshman from Arcadia, Florida earned two wins in relief last week for the Panthers. Bittner totaled 8.2 innings pitched and allowed one run on six hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts. The victories came over Oglethorpe and USA South foe Piedmont. Softball Player of the Week
Morgan Brewer, Maryville - The sophomore infielder from Maryville, Tennessee went a combined 14-for-24 (.583) with a .583 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage to go along with nine runs scored, nine RBI, five doubles, one triple, one home run and one stolen base as the Scots notched a 4-2 record last week versus USA South opposition to claim the Conference's Regular Season West Division title. In a doubleheader split with Piedmont, Brewer was a combined 4-for-8 with three runs scored, three RBI and one home run. In a doubleheader split with Huntingdon, Brewer was a combined 4-for-7 with three runs scored and two doubles. Finally, in a doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott, Brewer was a combined 6-for-9 with three runs scored, six RBI, three doubles, one triple and one stolen base. Casey Joliff, Maryville - The junior from St. Johns, Florida earned a 1-0 record during two appearances versus USA South foes in the circle for the Scots last week. In 11.0 innings pitched, Joliff did not allow a run or a hit while walking three and striking out four. She came on in relief of a 5-2 loss to Huntingdon and tossed six hitless innings, allowing two walks with one strikeout. In an 8-0, five-inning, win over Agnes Scott, Joliff tossed a no-hitter with one walk and three strikeouts. In two losses to Meredith, Mojica was a combined 2-for-5 with two runs scored, one run batted in, one home run and one walk. In two losses to Ferrum, Mojica was a combined 3-for-5 with one run batted in and one double. Matt Layden, Methodist - The Apopka, Florida senior attack totaled nine goals and two assists to go along with five ground balls and one caused turnover in an 0-2 week for the Monarchs versus USA South competition. In a 12-10 loss to William Peace, Layden scored a game-high six goals with two ground balls. In a 7-6 loss to Huntingdon, Layden tied for the game-high with three goals to go along with a contest-high two assists, three ground balls and one caused turnover. Austin Abourjilie, William Peace - The Greensboro, North Carolina freshman attack scored four goals with one assist as the Pacers topped USA South foe Methodist, 12-10, in the team's only action last week. Holly Hite, Meredith - The Apex, North Carolina junior midfielder helped the Avenging Angels' defense allow just five goals in a 27-5 victory over USA South foe Averett in the team's only action last week. Hite totaled games highs of nine draw controls and four ground balls to go along with four caused turnovers, three goals and one assist. Alexandra Cucinotta, N.C. Wesleyan - The Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania freshman midfielder scored 16 goals with one assist, 15 draw controls, 13 ground balls and six caused turnovers as the Battling Bishops posted an 0-2 record last week versus USA South competition. In a 13-12 loss to Salem, Cucinotta scored seven times with ten draw controls, nine ground balls and five caused turnovers. In a 17-11 loss to Huntingdon, Cucinotta scored nine goals with one assist, five draw controls, four ground balls and one caused turnover. Alan Valdez, LaGrange - The freshman from LaGrange, Georgia earned a 2-0 singles record at the number-three spot and a 1-1 mark at the top doubles position last week for the Panthers versus USA South members. Heidi Sarkkinen, Averett - The junior from Oulu, Finland earned a 4-0 record at both number-one singles and doubles spots last week for the Cougars. The singles victories came over opponents from Sweet Briar along with USA South members Salem, Mary Baldwin and Pfeiffer. In doubles, Sarkkinen teamed with Hannah Mattson for three of the wins and Eleanor Crane for the other. Also Nominated: Florencia Sorrentino, N.C.
