USA South Spring Sports Festival Headed Back to Rocky Mount, NC

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced a partnership with the city of Rocky Mount, North Carolina to host the 2020 and 2021 USA South Spring Sports Festivals. The festival features the tournaments of seven Conference spring sports. This will be the second time the Festival has been hosted by Rocky Mount as the 2013-2015 events were convened in the Eastern North Carolina city. The 2020 event will take place April 23-26 with each sport's schedule fluctuating between those dates.

"The City of Rocky Mount is excited to work with North Carolina Wesleyan College and host the 2020 and 2021 USA South Spring Sports Festivals," shared Natasha Hampton-Clayton, Assistant City Manager. "This event brings over 900 NCAA athletes to the area along with many other visitors and fans. The economic impact to the Rocky Mount, Nash and Edgecombe areas is tremendous and we look forward to hosting these prestigious championships."

Rocky Mount's city limits fall within Edgecombe and Nash Counties. The city, named an All-America City in 1970 and 1999, is located halfway between New York and Florida directly on I-95 and US 64. Rocky Mount has played host to numerous collegiate events as well as regional and national recreation tournaments. The city is also home to USA South member North Carolina Wesleyan College.

"As the only NCAA Division III conference to conduct an event of this nature, the USA South is fortunate to have a community like Rocky Mount step up to host," said Dr. Tom Hart, USA South Commissioner. "The Festival has grown in size and scope while in LaGrange, GA the last three years. Bringing our championships back to Rocky Mount provides our student-athletes, coaches and supporters the opportunity to compete at a variety of first-rate venues with a workforce that knows how to get the job done."

The baseball tournament will be the only competition not played within the city limits of Rocky Mount. The tournament will play the vast majority of its contests at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, North Carolina. There will be another yet to be determined facility which will be utilized as well during the event.

The softball tournament will be held at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex. This facility contains four softball fields with two 2,000 square foot concession areas with restrooms. This facility has hosted numerous national recreation softball tournaments.

The men's and women's lacrosse tournaments will be held at City Stadium which is within the Rocky Mount Sports Complex. The stadium is located adjacent from the softball fields and has a 5,000-seat capacity. The venue has hosted the annual Elizabeth City State's "Down East Viking Football Classic".

The men's golf tournament will take place at Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount. The 6,547-yard course is designed by Donald Ross and has a course rating of 71.8 with a slope rating of 137.

The men's and women's tennis events will take place on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan at the Bishops' 12-court facility. The courts are hard surface with ample spectator seating, lights and restrooms.

Specific details and game schedules of each tournament have yet to be finalized. Once official schedules have been determined, they will be available on the USA South website. Finally, it is the USA South's goal to continue providing live statistics and video of tournament contests when available.
