BASEBALL

Baseball Player of the Week
Tucker Criswell, Methodist - The junior infielder from Tallahassee, Florida was a combined 9-for-16 (.563) with a .650 on-base percentage, a .813 slugging percentage, five runs scored, seven RBI, four doubles, four walks and one stolen base in Methodist's 3-1 week. In a 15-5 win over Virginia Wesleyan, Criswell was 1-for-4 with two RBI, one double and two walks. In taking two out of three games against USA South foe N.C. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Kyle Lamantia, Averett - The sophomore from Chester, Virginia earned a 1-0 record in two appearances on the mound last week for the Cougars. Lamantia tossed a total of 10.2 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with eight walks and seven strikeouts. In a 1-0 win over Bridgewater, Lamantia carried a no-hitter into the ninth inning before losing it with two outs in the frame. Lamantia finished with 8.2 innings pitched, allowing one hit with seven walks and four strikeouts. Baseball Rookie of the Week
Bryce Marsh, Pfeiffer - The freshman first baseman from Asheboro, North Carolina went a combined 7-for-14 (.500) with a .588 on-base percentage, a 1.143 slugging percentage, eight runs scored, seven RBI, three doubles, two home runs and three walks in a 4-0 week for the Falcons. In a 3-2 win over St. Andrews, Marsh was 2-for-5 with one run scored and one double. In a three-game sweep of USA South foe Berea, Marsh was a combined 5-for-9 with seven runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles, two home runs and three walks. Also Nominated: Tommy Easley, Covenant; Gabe Lopez, Maryville; Jason Maggs, Averett.

Softball Player of the Week
Makenzie Pennell, Pfeiffer - The junior second baseman from Taylorsville, North Carolina went a combined 10-for-18 (.556) with a .571 on-base percentage, a 1.111 slugging percentage, four runs scored, 11 RBI, six doubles, two triples, two walks and one stolen base during Pfeiffer's 6-0 week. In a doubleheader sweep of USA South foe Methodist, Pennell was a combined 2-for-5 with one run scored, three RBI, one double, one triple and one walk. In a doubleheader sweep of USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan, Pennell was a combined 4-for-7 with two runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles and one triple. Finally, in a doubleheader sweep of Randolph, Pennell was a combined 4-for-6 with one run scored, one run batted in, three doubles, one walk and one stolen base. Also Nominated: Meredith Booth, N.C. Softball Pitcher of the Week
Kiana Millsaps, Pfeiffer - The Taylorsville, North Carolina junior earned a 4-0 record last week in five appearances, four starts, for the the Falcons in the circle. She tossed a total of 23.3 innings, allowing three runs (0.89 ERA) on 18 hits with four walks and 12 strikeouts. Millsaps first collected a win in relief over USA South foe Methodist before earning two complete-game victories against Conference rival N.C. Wesleyan. She finished the week with a complete-game, four-hit, shutout over Randolph. Also Nominated: Beth Braswell, N.C. Candice Smith, William Peace - The freshman first baseman from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina was a combined 10-for-22 (.455) with a .435 on-base percentage, a .864 slugging percentage, seven runs scored, ten RBI, three doubles, two home runs and two stolen bases in a 4-2 week for the Pacers versus USA South competition. In a doubleheader split with Greensboro, Smith was a combined 3-for-7 with two runs scored, two RBI, one double and one home run. In a doubleheader split with Salem, Smith was a combined 2-for-7 with two runs scored, two RBI and one double. Hannah Thompson, Averett - The freshman Pelham, North Carolina posted a complete-game two-hit shutout victory over USA South foe Meredith in her only appearance in the circle for the Cougars last week. Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Jared Nelson, Pfeiffer - The junior attack from Vestal, New York totaled 17 points on nine goals and eight assists in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. In a 14-7 win over Ferrum, Nelson scored twice with three assists, one ground ball and one caused turnover. In an 18-17 victory over USA South foe Piedmont, Nelson notched seven goals, including the eventual game-winner with just over four minutes remaining, and added five assists. Also Nominated: Cade Crews, Methodist; Hewitt Farr, Brevard; Adrian Harper, Huntingdon; Brady Jenks, Piedmont; Joonas Mattila, Averett; Davis Miller, Greensboro.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Lamont Nesbitt, Piedmont - The Evans, Georgia junior faceoff specialist earned 23-of-37 (62%) of the faceoffs while collected a game-high 15 ground balls in a tough 18-17 loss to USA South foe Pfeiffer in the Lions' only contest last week. Also Nominated: Jordan Fitzpatrick, Pfeiffer; Sam Garrett, Averett; Tyler Keiser, Huntingdon; Justin Matthews, Greensboro; Devin McCarragher, Brevard.

Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Devin McCarragher, Brevard - The freshman goalkeeper from Sharpsburg, Georgia earned two wins in a 2-0 week for the Tornados. Playing all 120 minutes last week, McCarragher totaled 22 saves and collected six ground balls. In his first career victory, a 20-12 win over Emmanuel, McCarragher stopped 13 shots and grabbed one ground ball. In a 12-10 victory over USA South foe Greensboro, McCarragher made nine saves with five ground balls. Also Nominated: Mason Foy, Averett; Michael Kiley, Greensboro; Brayden Puckett, Huntingdon; Spencer Stokes, Pfeiffer; Jacob Wittenberg, Piedmont.

 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Elizabeth Peasley, Averett - The sophomore attacker from Wilmington, North Carolina totaled 15 points on 14 goals and one assist to go along with 18 draw controls and 12 ground balls in a 2-0 week for the Cougars versus USA South competition. In a 14-12 win over Methodist, Peasley notched two goals with ten draw controls and one ground ball. In a 26-4 victory over Salem, Peasley set a new Conference single-game record by scoring 12 goals. She also added one assist, 11 ground balls and eight draw controls in the win. Also Nominated: Kaylee Andrews, Huntingdon; Lilia Cruz, Meredith; Ali Cucinotta, N.C. Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Holly Hite, Meredith - The senior midfielder from Apex, North Carolina totaled 29 draw controls, six ground balls and six caused turnovers to go along with ten goals scored as the Avenging Angels posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 24-0 win over previously unbeaten USA South foe Pfeiffer, Hite collected 15 draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers to go along with seven goals scored. In a 16-10 victory at 25th-ranked St. Mary's (Md.), Hite tallied 14 draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls with three goals scored. Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Dana Florian, William Peace - The freshman midfielder from Raleigh, North Carolina tallied ten points on seven goals and three assists in a 23-14 win over USA South foe Greensboro, the only contest last week for the Pacers. Florian also added 17 draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers in the victory. Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Tom Mittring, Brevard - The senior from Bavaria, Germany earned a 3-0 singles record at the top position and a 3-0 doubles mark splitting time at the number-one and two spots last week for the Tornados. Mittring collected singles victories over opponents from Johnson (TN) along with USA South foes Huntingdon and Berea. In doubles, Mittring teamed with three different partners to earn the three wins. Also Nominated: Andrew Chitty, Piedmont; Will Thompson, LaGrange; Roberto Puig, N.C. Wesleyan.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Tyler Frazee, Brevard - The freshman from Tampa, Florida earned a 3-0 singles record at the number-three position and a 3-0 doubles mark splitting time at the number-one and two spots last week for the Tornados. The victories in singles came over opponents from Johnson (TN) along with USA South foes Huntingdon and Berea. In doubles, Frazee teamed with three different partners to earn the three wins. Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Caroline Connelly, PiedmontThe sophomore from Cumming, Georgia earned a 3-0 singles record at the top position and a 2-1 doubles mark splitting time at the number-one and two spots last week for the Lions. Connelly collected singles victories over opponents from USA South foes Covenant and Berea as well as regionally-ranked Berry. In doubles, Connelly teamed with Maggie Moody to earn two Conference wins. Also Nominated: Esther Eddy, Covenant; Ashton Walker, Methodist; Heidi Sarkkinen, Averett; Nicole Halabi, N.C. Ansley Moody, LaGrange - The freshman from St. Simons, Florida earned 2-0 records at both the number-three singles and number-two doubles spots last week versus USA South competition. Moody collected singles victories over opponents from Covenant and Maryville while in doubles she teamed with Callaway Cook to earn the two wins. Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Cortez Sawyer, William Peace - The freshman from Zion, Illinois competed at the Mount Olive Invitational last week in three track events. He ran the 100 meters in a time of 10.87 which was good for a third-place finish out of 29, the 200 meters in a time of 22.08 which was good for third place out of 43 and was a member of the 4x100 meter team which finished in 42.44. Also Nominated: Alvin Jacobs, Piedmont; Jeremy Prichard, Methodist; Sean Bryant, Pfeiffer. 

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
D.J. Twitty, Methodist - The senior from Columbus, Missouri competed at the Mount Olive Invitational last week in the shot put. He earned seventh out of 27 with a throw of 13.16 meters. Also Nominated: Jonathan Brindle, Pfeiffer; Killian McCalin, Piedmont.

Men's Track Rookie of the Week

Anthony Jordan, Piedmont - The freshman from Adel, Georgia competed at the Emory Classic last week in two field events. In the long jump, Jordan produced a best-effort of 6.56 meters while in the triple jump, he tallied a mark of 13.37 meters. Also Nominated: Jake Patterson, Methodist.

 

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Alice Wardy, Mary Baldwin - The sophomore from Staunton, Virginia competed at the Bridgewater College Doc Jopson Invitational last week in two track events, setting new program records in each. In the 200 meters, Wardy ran a time of 25.66 which now ranked 12th in the nation this year. In the 400 meters, Wardy completed the race in 59.66 which is currently good for 29th in the nation. Also Nominated: Anteca Hill, Piedmont; Makayla Lawler, Methodist; S.K. Lipperd, Covenant; Tiffany Bartholomew, Pfeiffer; Marketta Bennett, William Peace.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week

In the 100 meters, her best of the day was a time of 12.60, in the 200 meters she ran a time of 26.88 and, finally, she was a member of the 4x100 meter relay team which finished in a time of 49.45. Also Nominated: S.K. Women's Field Rookie of the Week
