LaGrange's Haynes Named AFCA All-American

Senior Peyton Haynes was named to the first team of the 2019 AFCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team as announced today by the American Football Coaches Association. The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. These All-American teams are the only ones chosen exclusively by the the coaches themselves.

"What a tremendous accomplishment for Peyton Haynes. He's been through a lot of over the last few years and I'm extremely excited for him and his family," said Coach Earl Chambers. "This is a huge accomplishment for our football program and what we are trying to build here at LaGrange College. 

"We could't be more proud of him for all  he has done for our school and football program."

Haynes becomes the first Panther selected to the AFCA Division III Coaches' All-America Team and his selection to the first team was also a program first. He is the program's third All-American. Linebacker Andre Carter was a All-American in 2012 on the third team and a 2013 second team selection. Kicker Will Jeffcoat was on the All-America third team in 2012. 

He was a 2019 first team USA South All-Conference selection. Haynes set a new school record with seven interceptions to lead the USA South. He had a school record three interceptions against Apprentice and two more against Maryville. He finished the season with 33 total tackles, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. Haynes is the program's career leader with nine interceptions.
