Meredith Lacrosse NCAA Tournament Run Ends Early

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Meredith College lacrosse NCAA Division III Tournament journey ended Saturday with a 16-12 loss to Rhodes College in round one action. The Avenging Angels played fairly even with the Lynx in most every category, but Rhodes finished atop the scoreboard at the end of regulation. Rookie Carlee Joseph led Meredith with five goals on the day.

The Angels led the game with 17 draw controls to 13 for Rhodes thanks to 11 from Danielle Lee.  Rhodes scored back-to-back goals in the early minutes of each half to maintain an edge over the Avenging Angels for the eventual win.

Lottie Meadows netted a goal per half, with Jennifer Halvorson and Victoria Doyle scoring one apiece. Lee dished out a pair of assists, while Alison Reisert, Meadows and Halvorson recorded one each in the loss. Sophomore goalie Meghan Brooks recorded four saves in her seventh loss on the season, while senior keeper Sarah Daniels remained undefeated on the year with seven saves in the cage for Rhodes.

After the Lynx opened the scoring in the first period to take a 2-0 lead, Joseph and Meadows tied the match with one apiece. Rhodes surged ahead on a 4-0 run during the next 11 minutes, but Lee ended the series back-to-back attempts to keep Meredith in the hunt.

Rhodes scored three of the next four to advance their lead to extend their advantage to four with 10:13 remaining in the half, but the Meredith closed out the period on a 3-1 run themselves to cut that lead back to two heading into the break.

High scorer Kendall Cunningham landed a pair of shots during the first 3:28 of the second half to keep Meredith at bay. But a determined Avenging Angels squad continued to battle and dropped in the next two to put up a fight.

The defense took over the match during the next sis minutes, and the team's exchanged goals to maintain a two-point Rhodes advantage with 16:07 remaining in regulation.

In spite of a 2-1 draw control advantage for Meredith, the Lynx scored the next three goals to spread the gap to five with time running out.

Lee scored the final goal at 9:54, as the goalies defended their nets during the final minutes of the match.

Rhodes will advance to face the host Franklin and Marshall Diplomats, ranked second in the Mid-Atlantic region, Sunday at 2 p.m.
