FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- The Methodist University Department of Athletics announced the hiring of Bree Galloway as its new women's lacrosse coach on Thursday afternoon.
A 2013 graduate of the College at Brockport State University of New York with a degree in physical education, Galloway earned a master's of science in health, physical education and recreation from Emporia State.
Galloway spent the 2017 season as the head women's lacrosse coach at Wilmington College in Wilmington, Ohio, inheriting a fledgling program and picking up just the second Ohio Athletic Conference win in program history.
"We are thrilled to have Bree join the Methodist University Monarch family," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Eavenson. "She has an extensive lacrosse background, and her contagious enthusiasm for coaching and teaching the game of lacrosse will serve our team well. We are excited about the future of our women's lacrosse team under her leadership."
"I am grateful to be a Monarch," said Galloway. "I'd like to thank Dr. Hancock and Dave Eavenson for giving me the opportunity and I'm humbled to build on what [former] coach [Kendyl] Clarkson has done at MU."
Prior to arriving at Wilmington, Galloway was a part of back-to-back National Junior College Athletic Association National Championship teams while playing for Onondaga Community College in 2009 and Monroe Community College in 2010 before transferring to Brockport.
Additional coaching experience includes two seasons as the assistant girl's lacrosse coach at George Mason High School in Fall Church, Va., as well as stops at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Va., Liverpool High School in Liverpool, N.Y., and Manlius Pebble Hill Central in DeWitt, N.Y.
Methodist posted a 9-7 record (5-1 USA South) in 2017 and earned the No. 2 seed in the USA South Conference Tournament. The Monarchs had five all-conference selections, including the 2017 USA South Rookie of the Year in Monti Hendrix.
"I am excited about the possibilities for this coming season with the talent that exists at Methodist and the talent of those arriving in the fall," added Galloway.
Galloway will assume her duties beginning on August 1.
