2019 USA South Women's Lacrosse Awards Announced

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2019 All-Conference awards for women's lacrosse. Meredith College's Holly Hite was named Player of the Year while her coach, Lauren Scott took home Coach of the Year honors. William Peace University's Dana Florian was named Rookie of the Year to round out the individual honors. Finally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.

All honors were determined by votes from the women's lacrosse coach at each institution.

Hite, a senior midfielder from Apex, North Carolina becomes the fourth consecutive Avenging Angel to be named USA South Player of the Year after her former teammate, Carlee Joseph, collected the accolade the past three years. Hite currently has complied a League-high 189 draw controls, breaking her own Conference single-season record. Hite is also the owner of the USA South single-game and career draw control marks. Additionally, she is second in the USA South with 72 goals scored to go along with 12 assists, 36 ground balls and 34 caused turnovers. For her efforts, Hite earned First Team All-Conference accolades for the third consecutive season. Finally, Hite was named USA South Player of the Week once and USA South Defensive Player of the Week twice this spring.

Florian, a freshman midfielder from Raleigh, North Carolina currently leads all Conference rookies with 83 points on 64 goals and 19 assists. She has also compiled a rookie-high 101 draw controls to go along with 79 ground balls and a Conference-best 60 caused turnovers which is a new single-season Conference record. In USA South-only action this season, Florian's 41 caused turnovers ranked first, her 58 ground balls was second and her 51 goals were also second. For her efforts, Florian earned First Team All-Conference honors this season while also being named USA South Rookie of the Week three times.

In her seventh season at Meredith, Scott collects her second consecutive USA South Coach of the Year honor. It is the fourth such accolade of Scott's career which ties her for the most by a coach in League women's lacrosse history. This spring, Scott has led the Avenging Angels to a 15-4 overall record and a fourth consecutive unbeaten season in League play. With a single-season Conference record 11 League wins (11-0), Meredith earned its fourth straight USA South Regular Season crown. The Avenging Angels have now won 35 consecutive regular season Conference games and head into the semifinals of the USA South Tournament as the top-seed with hopes of capturing their sixth straight title.
